I have played a couple of times now in the lovely Tigh Mheaic in Carna, County Galway and I have to say it is a pleasure to be there. The staff and owners are very friendly and it appears that the clients and regulars at the bar are definitely up for a good time when it comes to the music. The drive there is very dramatic through Joyce country with mountains, lakes, waterfalls and lots of wild remote scenery. The bar is an old coaching inn and it is set so it is facing the road as you drive up to it with a big courtyard and carpark at the front. Inside there is a welcoming wood burning stove, a bar to the right and a big function and dining room to the left. The first gig I did was fairly quiet so I set up next to the fire, playing to the bar. The next gig was an early gig on Mothers day where there were a few more people so I played on the main stage. There was a huge model of a Galway Hooker boat on the stage so I had to move that out of the way. The people were lovely and I got some interesting requests for songs, most of which I knew and played for them so the gig went well.
