After all the excitement of the gigs after Christmas it was finally time to play on the one night of the year when every performer in the world has a gig. This year 2015 was going to be welcomed at the lovely bar Hanleys back in the wilds of An Droim, way 'back the way' where the land is windswept and rocky. To get there means going over two narrow bridges across the sea. The locals know these roads like the back of their hands so have no bother zooming along at top speed on the narrow bridges. For us, we went a bit slower and remembered to wave to every car that went by, as they all wave at everyone here, so it would be rude not to.
I had played a previous night there on the 26th, St Stephen's night, and that was just crazy with people falling all over the place, so I was thinking that New Year's Eve would be even more off the wall. As it happens this night was not as full as the Stephen's night gig because every single bar everywhere is having a new years eve party, so everyone goes to their local pub, but it was still a fun time. I remembered to bring the external monitor so I didn't have to worry about people falling on the main one. I had a bit of a count down lined up for midnight and I just had to remember to start it at the right time so there was a voice counting down then church bells on the stroke of midnight and so on. I realised about a quarter to that I did not have a clock with the seconds showing, so I had to get into the control panel on the computer to set the clock to show seconds, that was I could start the audio count down at the right time to hit midnight on time. I did that between songs so panic over and it worked.
So, onwards to the next gigs, and thank you to Padraig and everyone at Hanleys for a great night. See you again soon!
